The Repointing Brickwork Process

When your old brick building begins to show obvious signs of wear that include leaks, water spots, chipped brick surfaces, cracks, depleted mortar joints and others, brick pointing, or otherwise simply re-pointing, can restore your brick structure to its former glory. Re-pointing is the process of replenishing mortar joints and, when necessary, replacing badly damaged brick. See, mortar is a much softer material than brick, which allows for it to take the brunt of weathering. This is good, because it is much easier and affordable to repair mortar than it is to replace entire brick walls. When this weathering occurs the mortar joints become recessed.

At Eden Roofing & General Contractors our brick pointing specialists start at the top of the wall, so that all dust and damping that occurs will do so underneath completed work. Using a diamond bladed masonry grinder the joints are cleaned out and severely damaged bricks are removed as needed, and any cracks are ground down. The cracks and mortar joints are then filled with waterproof Portland cement that has been mixed with Acryl 60. This compound mixture increases the adhesion and flexural strength of the mortar which will lend to its durability and flexibility when exposed to the elements. We also work very hard to perfectly match the color of your bricks so there are no visible signs of maintenance. When the process is complete, your brick structure will be replenished to look and function good as new for another 50 or 60 years.

These same skills of correcting defects and finishing off mortar joints are also employed in laying new brick structures.
